This (life in general) has been quite an experience. After several years trying to get back to a steady IT job, my ex gave up on me. If you know anything about surviving a LTR with someone that suffers from NPD, Please LMK :) I do not wish that experience on anyone!
Yes it will be expensive, comparable to what Hendo hoverboards went for. A Hover Us board does not need any special ramp or surface. Ride it on the street, sidewalk, dirt trail... the surface needs to support the weight (not so much on water) and be somewhat airtight. We will offer a detailed how-to build guide with the complete design and instructions from years of building experience.
Country of Origin should be stated by manufactures and retailers. Hello Amazon, are you listening? Although one country produces almost all battery powered leaf blowers, I am not going to support that government's bullying. Everybody deserves to be FREE from oppressive government control. Hover Us will proudly feature American and globally sourced parts from countries without arms enbargoes.
It started March 5th 2014 when I saw the HUVr Tech Hoax and thought, Why not?
There are many how-to leaf blower hovercraft videos like this from 2010:
I watched and researched but couldn't find what I wanted. Several designs have come up since then, like Hendo (Magnetic Field ArchitectureTM) and Lexus (liquid nitrogen cooled superconductors), but nothing like Hover Us.
I started with an oval board shape and began many years of experimenting, designing, building, and testing.
Finding Seam Grip has allowed me great design flexibility, it works wonders.
An image of the hand drawn skirt profile (used for layout measures), might be a NFT auctioning on OpenSea.
How much weight can it lift? If CFM was the important blower measure, something like the Lasko Wind Machine with 4750 CFM would be awesome. But more pressure is needed. The force on a surface, the ground area under the skirt, is easy to determine with the area and pressure. The pressure of your blower can be measured with a manometer, which is easy to make. You can sort of calculate air pressure with the published speed rating and Bernoulli's equation. I had been developing corporate web applications (full-stack ASP.NET) but decided to focus on Hover Us.
The design has seen many revisions and went from a bag skirt, to wall skirt, to bag and finger, but
the current version is crazy. There will be more details, hopefully sooner :) There is a lot
of work to build one, but it is not rocket science. I decided to get some feedback and make
improvements, especially making the build easier, before taking orders. We will also release a free
how-to STEM focused PDF that covers detailed steps to design and build your own. The Hover Us design
and material kits will also be available.
